Katie was born in the small town of Brunswick, Georgia in 1989 and started playing golf at six years old. She played many different sports and did not compete in her first non-high school tournament until she was 16 years old; it was then golf became her passion. Katie won her first junior tournament when she was 17 and then the game quickly improved from there.
Katie received a full scholarship from then Coach Kristi Coggins to The University of South Carolina. Dividing her time between studying and competing she became one of the greatest to ever play for the University. Katie graduated as the All-time Career Scoring Leader in South Carolina's history. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Psychology.
Katie turned professional in June of 2012, gained full status on the Ladies European Tour, and partial status on the LPGA in December for the 2013 season. Once halfway through the year on the LPGA, she earned full status and finished that season in the top 100 on the money list. Katie played in 7 events on the Ladies European Tour with finishes in the Top 5 three times and ended that season in the Top 40 on the money list.
When Katie turned professional in June of 2012 she won her first professional event, Michigan Women's Open, by 10 strokes. Katie also qualified for the 2012 U.S. Women's Open at Black Wolf Run. Katie was the winner of the Second Stage of LPGA Qualifying School by six strokes shooting 15 under par. She also competed in the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School and finished in 9th place.
In 2014, her first full season on the LPGA Tour, Katie earned her first Top 10 finish in Hawaii at the Lotte Championship.
In 2015, Katie finished T-19 at the KIA Classic and the Manulife Classic. Katie also had a T-17 finish in the ISPS Handa New Zealand Women's Open.
Early in this 2016 season, Katie has already posted a T-5 finish at the Ladies Australian Masters.
